Zazie Beetz has joined the cast of Discretion, the new Paramount+ legal drama, in a recurring role, adding to a growing ensemble as production continues.
She joins previously announced leads Nicole Kidman, Stephan James, Elle Fanning, Josh Lucas, and Colton Ryan. The eight-episode legal thriller, adapted from bestselling author Chandler Baker’s short story of the same name, follows Lenny (Fanning), a summer associate at a prestigious Dallas law firm who uncovers a web of NDAs concealing a dark truth. When she realizes she’s signed the same agreement, her discoveries put her at odds with Sharon (Kidman), the firm’s most powerful female partner, upending their mentor-protégé relationship and raising the question of who gets to keep secrets, and at what cost.
Beetz joins fellow new recurring cast members Ben Foster (Hell or High Water, Emancipation), Stella Baker (Scarpetta, Tell Me Your Secrets), and John Hoogenakker (One Battle After Another, The Morning Show). Character details for all four have not been disclosed.
Chandler Baker writes and executive produces the series alongside Susannah Grant. Additional executive producers include Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films, Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning, and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures, Joe Hipps for Cut To, and Jordan Cerf for Linden Entertainment, along with A24. Matt Shakman, also an executive producer, will direct the first four episodes.
Production is currently underway, with the series expected to premiere in 2027.
The casting adds to a busy 2026 for Beetz, who has starred in several notable film and television projects this year, including the lead role of Asia Reaves in They Will Kill You, Kaya in Andre Gaines’s psychological thriller The Dutchman, and Janet in Gore Verbinski’s sci-fi action comedy Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. She also stars as Saga Bauer and serves as an executive producer on the upcoming series Nocturne.
