Zendaya and John David Washington Shoot a Feature Film, <i>Malcolm & Marie</i>, in Midst of COVID-19
While everyone was shutdown during COVID-19, Zendaya and John David Washington were filming a secret movie, Malcolm & Marie, while keeping social distancing. The film has already completed production, most likely the first feature film to do so during this epidemic.

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson penned the script, one he wrote over the span of six days in March with Zendaya and John David Washington in mind. The film’s plot has yet to be revealed but it is said to be in the vein Netflix’s Marriage Story. This film however has a number of social themes that the world is experiencing right now.

Due to current events, Levinson and his wife Ashley, producer Kevin Turen, Washington and Zendaya all bankrolled the film during pre-production and production.

Malcolm & Marie was filmed between June 17-July 2 and it was filmed on location at the Feldman Architecture’s Caterpillar House, a site that Deadline says was chosen for its ability to provide “privacy for the production and distance from anyone outside the quarantine group,” while also being aesthetically suited to the mood of Levinson’s script.

But before filming could begin, both the cast and crew had to quarantine for two weeks. For two weeks, cast and crew wore masks, and social distanced. They had their own separate dwellings with individual HVAC units. The crew took hikes, rehearsed in the parking lot, and ate in designated spots food prepared by a chef who had been quarantined with the group. No one was allowed to leave the property.”

The crew preparing the set followed similar protocols.

Equally strict measures were implemented throughout filming with the stars acting as their own costume department, among other roles.
