Eight stars from Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise will appear in a reimagined Off-Broadway revival of Neil Simon’s Rumors this winter at the Newman Mills Theater at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space. Tony winner Zhailon Levingston, who recently co-directed the acclaimed revival of Cats: The Jellicle Ball, will direct the production, running a strictly limited 14-week engagement starting January 9, 2027, with an official opening January 25.
The revival features two entirely separate casts. Phaedra Parks plays Claire Ganz and Stacey Rusch plays Cookie Cusack from January 9 through February 28, alongside Lisa Rinna as Chris Gorman and Dolores Catania as Cassie Cooper. For the second run, Cynthia Bailey steps into the role of Chris Gorman, and Candiace Dillard-Bassett plays Cassie Cooper, alongside Eileen Davidson as Claire Ganz and Carole Radziwill as Cookie Cusack, from March 2 through April 21. Casting for the husbands’ roles, played opposite each Housewife, has not yet been announced.
The production marks the New York stage debut for all eight women except Rinna, who first appeared on Broadway as Roxie Hart in Chicago in 2007 and is set to return this holiday season in It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play alongside her husband, Harry Hamlin. Several others bring real acting backgrounds to the production: Davidson is a two-time Daytime Emmy winner known for decades of work on Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless; Dillard-Bassett has appeared in the drama series Hush and Netflix’s Family Reunion; and Bailey’s credits include BMF, The Upshaws, and Single Drunk Female.
Originally premiering on Broadway in November 1988 and running 535 performances, Rumors follows four couples arriving at a wealthy New York suburb to celebrate a tenth wedding anniversary, only to discover their host has shot himself in the earlobe, his wife has vanished, and the household staff is nowhere to be found. The original production starred Christine Baranski, Jessica Walter, and Joyce Van Patten, with Baranski winning a Tony for her performance as Chris Gorman, the same role Rinna and Bailey will now split between them.
Casting reality television stars into an ensemble farce built on public scandal and private chaos unraveling in real time is a notably direct thematic match, turning the Housewives’ own on-camera personas into source material for a story literally about secrets becoming public spectacle. Levingston addressed that overlap directly, saying the two worlds collide naturally without needing to change a word of Simon’s original text, and that revealing the “delicious chaos” of private lives turned public is exactly what drew him to the reimagining.
Tickets start at $79, with an American Express Card Member presale beginning October 27, a TodayTix presale starting October 29, and general public tickets going on sale October 30 at 10 a.m. ET. Rumors is produced by Benson Drive Productions, with Envoy Theatricals’ Marty McGuire general managing.
