9-1-1: Lone Star' Heats Up Season 5 with Derailment Drama, Cast Exit and Cast Upped to Series Regular [TRAILER]

The hit series ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ is gearing up for a dramatic fifth season, promising intense action and emotional twists for fans. Fox unveiled the first trailer for the new season, set to premiere on September 23, with next-day streaming available on Hulu.

In the season opener, Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) and his team at Austin’s 126 Fire Department face a catastrophic train derailment involving toxic chemicals. The trailer hints at the severity of the incident, showing survivors bleeding from their eyes and mouths due to chlorine gas exposure. Strand’s ominous declaration, “Dispatch, we have a problem,” underscores the gravity of the situation.

The new season introduces several significant plot developments: Judd Ryder, played by Jim Parrack, resigns to care for his recently handicapped son, Wyatt (Jackson Pace), who has been promoted to series regular. Owen must choose a new lieutenant, with both Marjan (Natacha Karam) and Paul (Brian Michael Smith) vying for the position. Captain Tommy Vega (Gina Torres) faces challenges in her romantic life, while T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) and Carlos (Rafael Silva) deal with the aftermath of Carlos’ father’s murder. Their newly cemented marriage is put to the test as Carlos becomes obsessed with solving the case.

Speculation about the series’ future intensified with the departure of Sierra McClain, who played Judd’s wife. Despite rumors that the 12-episode fifth season might be the last, the trailer does not hint at a conclusion.

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. Creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear also serve as executive producers and writers. Bradley Buecker, who directed the series premiere, joins Alexis Martin Woodall, Rashad Raisani, John J. Gray, Angela Bassett, Rob Lowe, Carly Soteras, and Wolfe Coleman as executive producers.

Rob Lowe expressed his enthusiasm for the challenging shoot, noting the “scale and spectacle” of the train derailment scenes. “I love how big it looks. It looks like a movie. I think people are going to be blown away,” Lowe told TV Insider.

The fifth season of ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ promises to deliver high-stakes drama and personal challenges that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Tune in for the premiere on Monday, September 23, at 8 p.m. on Fox.
