Quinta Brunson and Stephanie Hsu are set to star in Universal Pictures’ upcoming comedy feature ‘Par for the Course.’ The project is based on an original idea by Brunson.

Quinta Brunson (‘Abbott Elementary’), will not only star in ‘Par for the Course’ but also co-write and produce the film. She is partnering with Justin Tan, a writer, co-producer, and director from ‘Abbott Elementary,’ who will make his feature directorial debut with this project. Brunson and Tan have been creative collaborators for over a decade, having first met at an open-mic night and later co-founding the scripted comedy division of BuzzFeed.

The project is being produced by Alex McAtee for Point Grey, under their first-look deal with Universal. Brunson will produce through her company, Fifth Chance. Universal’s Senior EVP of Production Development Erik Baiers and Creative Executive Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Brunson said, “I’m so excited to be working with Point Grey and Universal on ‘Par for the Course.’ This is a comedy close to my heart, and who better to do it with than some of the best producers in the game. I’ve known Seth, Evan, James, and Alex for a while and I’m happy to finally work on a project together.”

Seth Rogen, co-founder of Point Grey, also shared his excitement: “We’re so thrilled at the opportunity to get to work with Quinta. She’s one of our most incredible comedic voices working today, and it’s such an honor to get to work alongside her and watch what she brings to this project.”

Brunson has made history with ‘Abbott Elementary,’ being the first Black woman to receive three Emmy nominations and the second to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. The show has garnered multiple accolades, including nine Emmy nominations for its third season. Hsu’s recent credits include ‘The Fall Guy,’ ‘Joy Ride,’ and the upcoming animated feature ‘The Wild Robot.’ She is also set to executive produce and star in the new Peacock series ‘Laid.’

Stay tuned for more updates on this project.
