The CW network has made the tough decision to conclude its run with another one of its original series. In an announcement made on Wednesday, the network confirmed that the upcoming third season of “All American: Homecoming” will mark the show’s final chapter. This college-centric spinoff of the popular “All American” series is slated to premiere on July 8.

This news arrives shortly after The CW renewed the parent series, “All American,” for a seventh season, albeit with a shorter run comprising 13 episodes compared to its previous seasons. With “All American: Homecoming” bidding adieu, only “All American” and the forthcoming fourth and final season of “Superman & Lois” remain as scripted holdovers from The CW’s prior Warner Bros.-CBS era. The network had previously canceled “Walker” back in May.

The shift in programming direction follows Nexstar’s acquisition of a controlling interest in The CW in late 2022. Since then, there has been a noticeable departure from scripted series from earlier years, with a pivot towards a more cost-effective co-production model for scripted shows, all aimed at achieving profitability for The CW.

Nkechi Okoro Carroll, the creator and executive producer of “All American: Homecoming,” expressed her disappointment at the show’s conclusion, stating, “I’m devastated to learn that ‘All American: Homecoming’ will not be moving forward with more episodes and that this new season premiering in July will be our final one.” She further thanked the cast and crew for their dedication in bringing the authentic HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) experience to screens for the past three seasons.

In response, The CW extended gratitude to the team behind the show, acknowledging their commitment to telling important stories. The network assured fans that the upcoming final season of “All American: Homecoming” promises to be the best yet and expressed eagerness to share it with viewers.

“All American: Homecoming” stars Geffri Maya, Cory Hardrict, Sylvester Powell, Camille Hyde, Mitchell Edwards, Netta Walker, Martin Bobb-Semple, and Rhoyle Ivy King. The series is produced by Warner Bros. TV and CBS Studios in association with Berlanti Productions and Rock My Soul Productions, with Carroll serving as executive producer alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robbie Rogers, Marqui Jackson, and Lindsay Dunn.

Despite the disappointment surrounding the conclusion of “All American: Homecoming,” fans can look forward to the final season, which promises to deliver a fitting sendoff to the beloved characters and storylines.
