Tyler Perry's 'Divorce in the Black' Set to Premiere Date on Amazon Prime Video

Tyler Perry wasted no time in announcing his second film under his four-picture deal with Amazon. Following yesterday’s news of his project “Black, White, & Blue (click here),” Perry announced “Divorce in the Black” as his next project starring Meagan Good, Cory Hardrict.

Per his m-o, Perry will be directing and producing the movie from his own script. “Divorce in the Black” also stars Joseph Lee Anderson, Taylor Polidore, Shannon Wallace, Richard Lawson, and Debbi Morgan.

The film centers around Ava, a young bank professional whose world crumbles when her husband, Dallas, abruptly leaves their marriage. Determined to salvage what’s left, Ava embarks on a journey to fight for her relationship. However, fate has other plans in store as it unveils Dallas’ hidden misdeeds, which not only destroyed their marriage but also interfered with Ava’s chances of finding her true soulmate. While specific character details remain undisclosed, Deadline has confirmed that Cory Hardrict will be portraying the role of Dallas.

In addition to Perry’s involvement through Tyler Perry Studios, the production team includes producers Angi Bones and Will Areu from Tyler Perry Studios, as well as Dianne Ashford. With their combined expertise, “Divorce in the Black” is poised to meet the high production standards that audiences have come to expect from Perry’s projects.

Tyler Perry’s collaboration with Amazon Studios was announced in November 2022, and all four movies under the deal will be exclusively released on Prime Video. Prior to his partnership with Amazon, Tyler Perry had been working closely with Netflix, where he recently released the period drama “A Jazzman’s Blues.” He also launched the 12th installment of the popular “Madea” film franchise, titled “A Madea Homecoming,” on the streaming platform. Perry had previously established a first-look features deal with Lionsgate, which produced “A Madea Family Funeral” in 2019, grossing an impressive $75.8 million worldwide.

In addition to his success in film, Perry has also made a significant impact on television. He has a longstanding television partnership with Viacom and was responsible for eight series that aired in 2022, including notable shows like “The Oval,” “Assisted Living,” and “Sistas.”

While Tyler Perry’s collaboration with Amazon Studios marks an exciting new chapter in his career, it does not mean exclusivity with the streaming giant. Perry is currently directing “Six Triple Eight,” a WWII drama featuring Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey, and he is also working on the thriller “Mea Culpa,” starring Kelly Rowland, for Netflix.
