Angela Bassett is joining Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown in the upcoming Netflix fantasy film Damsel, which tells the story of what happens when the princess marries prince charming.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is directing based on a script written by Dan Mazeau.
Damsel centers on Princess Elodie (Brown) who is shocked to discover that she’ll be sacrificed to the kingdom’s sacred cave dragon, after being married to her prince charming. She must survive long enough until someone comes to save her. The only problem is no one is coming.
Bassett is playing Lady Bayford, she is the stepmother to Brown’s Princess Elodie.
Damsel will be executive produced by Brown for PCMA Productions alongside Mazeau, Zack Roth, Chris Castaldi, and Sue Baden-Powell. With Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum serving as producers. Emily Wolfe will co-produce Damsel.
Currently, no release date has been announced for Damsel.
Damsel is just one of Bassett’s many collaboration with Netflix. Up next she will lend her voice for the Netflix animated film Wendell and Wild. She also has Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever coming out this year and wrapped the fifth season of the Fox hit series 9-1-1, for which she also serves as EP.
