Apple TV+ has officially renewed its freshman series Palm Royale for a second season, taking us all back to high society Palm Beach in the 60s.
Based loosely on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie and produced by Apple Studios, Palm Royale is set in 1969 and follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she strives to break into Palm Beach high society. With her impeccable style and sharp wit, Maxine navigates the social divide between the wealthy elite and the aspiring outsiders. The show explores the question: “How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?”
Amber Chardae Robinson, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and Kaia Gerber rounded out the first season cast with guest appearances by Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett. Returning cast for the second season has yet to be announced.

Executive producer Laura Dern expressed excitement over the renewal. “We are thrilled about season two. Jayme and I have been dreaming up this project for so long, hoping audiences would enjoy the radical ride that is the world of Palm Royale. We can’t wait to get started.”
During the Deadline’s Contenders TV event in April, Wiig provided more insight into her character, Maxine. “Maxine is very ambitious and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. But that twist of being so sunny and positive while she is doing it makes you think, ‘Wait, I think I like her.’ We wanted to make her likable even though she was doing things that were not that likable,” Wiig said.
Abe Sylvia serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for Palm Royale under his Aunt Sylvia’s Moving Picture Company banner. Other executive producers include Wiig, Dern, Jayme Lemons for Jaywalker Pictures, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Tate Taylor, John Norris for Wyolah Films, Sharr White, Sheri Holman, and Boat Rocker.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, also commented on the renewal. “Palm Royale has delighted global audiences, and we are thrilled that viewers will have the opportunity to spend more time with this highly entertaining, iconic cast, from Kristen Wiig to the incomparable Carol Burnett. We can’t wait for everyone to experience the next chapter in the lives of the Palm Beach high society set that Abe Sylvia, Kristen, Laura Dern, and this incredible team have brought to life.”
Palm Royale premiered on Apple TV+ in March, with the season finale airing in May. The show has gained a loyal following and critical acclaim, with Wiig recently receiving a nomination from the first-ever Gotham TV Awards for her role in the series.
