Cher Horowitz is coming home. Paramount+ has greenlit a limited series sequel to the cult-classic 1995 film Clueless, with Alicia Silverstone reprising her iconic role as Beverly Hills’ most fashionable it-girl. Filming is slated to begin in Los Angeles in 2027.
The series picks up 30 years after the original film. Cher has figured out a lot since high school: she is successful in business and has mastered motherhood, or so she thinks. When her own daughter enters high school, Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel clueless all over again.
The greenlight caps a seven-year journey to bring the project to the screen. CBS Studios, which owns the TV rights to Clueless, first developed a different take centered on Stacey Dash’s Dionne character, which landed at Peacock in 2020 before not moving forward. A second attempt with a new creative team and Silverstone attached as Cher also landed at Peacock in April 2025, but the streamer passed on it earlier this year. The new Paramount+ regime, which had been tracking the project, moved quickly when it became available, bringing the IP back to its original studio home.
“Clueless is coming home,” said Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+. “Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box office hit and instant pop culture classic.”
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known for The OC and Gossip Girl, co-write the series with Jordan Weiss, known for Dollface and Freakier Friday. Original film writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence return as executive producers alongside Silverstone, Schwartz and Savage.
The original Clueless, a loose adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, was one of the biggest surprise hits of the summer of 1995 and is now widely regarded as one of the greatest teen comedies ever made. It starred Silverstone alongside Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy and Paul Rudd. The film recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a 35mm screening at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures reuniting the original cast, and was added to the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
