Issa Rae and Mike Gauyo’s scripted audio drama Fruit: The Cost of Legacy has announced its cast and dropped a trailer ahead of its August 20 premiere on Audible.
The series, the third installment and a reboot of the original Fruit, follows Marc St. James (Siddiq Saunderson), a star running back for the University of Los Angeles and heir to one of the most celebrated families in sports. When a leaked audio recording exposes his private relationship with his boyfriend Trae (Justen Ross), Marc’s carefully constructed world begins to fracture, forcing him to confront the expectations attached to his family name and the cost of living on his own terms.
The main cast also stars Amin Joseph (Snowfall) as NFL Hall of Famer Andre St. James, Cassandra Freeman (Bel-Air) as Olympic sprinter Sheryl St. James, Jonica Booth (Rap Sh!t) as WNBA champion Jordyn St. James, Yutopia Essex as Siya Harris, Kendall Kyndall as Ethan Holt and Mike Merrill as Hakeem Nabers.

Additional cast includes Tristen J. Winger, D.K. Uzoukwu, Christina Anthony, Mason McCulley, Darren Dalton, Thomas Mackie, Mackenro Alexander, Talia Caldwell, Keylon Hall, David Alan Madrick and Roderick Davis. Issa Rae, Gail Bean and Jessie Woo appear as guest stars.
The series is written by Gauyo, Kira Talise, Darnell Brown, RK Russell, Joshua L. Myers and Jules Crosby, and directed by Gauyo. Rae, Gauyo and Raedio executive produce, with Dzifa Yador serving as executive producer for Raedio and Brittney McCombs for Audible. May Tsehay produces. Original music is by Flwr Chyld and Suni MF, with Charles Stella serving as sound designer, mixer and mastering engineer.
