Ayo Edebiri Joins Cast of Marvel’s Villain-Centric Thunderbolts

Ayo Edebiri has lined up her next role in Marvel Studios’ villain-centric Thunderbolts. She joins Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen and Olga Kurylenko, who were previously cast.

Little is known about the plot of the film, but in the comics, The Thunderbolts centers on a team of Marvel anti-heroes who are sent on missions commissioned by the government.

Pugh, Harbour and Kurylenko are reprising their respective Black Widow roles as Yelena Belova, Alexei / Red Guardian and Black Antonia / Taskmaster. Louis-Dreyfus stars as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Stan will reprise his Marvel role as Bucky Barnes and his co-star Russell returns as John Walker / U.S. Agent. John-Kamen will portray Ava / Ghost and Kurylenko portrays Taskmaster but in regards to Edebiri, her role is not disclosed.

Jake Schreier is directing with Black Widow writer Eric Pearson penning the script. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing.

The film will bow on July 26, 2024. Marvel had no comment.

The project marks Edebiri first major studio starring role.

Edebiri is an American comedian, writer, producer and actress. Her credits include the film Theater Camp, Comedy Central’s Up Next and co-hosts the podcast Iconography with Olivia Craighead. Edebiri is best known as a voice actor on Big Mouth and most recently, her breakout role in, The Bear.

The Hulu critical darling set in a high-pressure Chicago sandwich shop. In the series she portrayed Sydney Adamu and earned a Critics Choice Award nomination. She is expected to be a player in this year’s Emmy race. Season 2 will premiere this summer on FX on Hulu.
