MGM+ has released the trailer for “Beacon 23,” a sci-fi series starring Stephan James and Lena Headey. The show is set to premiere globally on MGM+ on Sunday, November 12, at 9:00 p.m. EST/PST. Originally planned for Spectrum and AMC, MGM+ acquired the series last month.

“Beacon 23” is based on Hugh Howey’s book and takes place in the farthest reaches of the Milky Way, with Aster (Headey), a government agent, and Halan (James), an ex-military man. They are beacon keepers in the 23rd century, responsible for guiding ships at the edge of the known universe. Doubts about each other’s trustworthiness lead to a tense battle of wills.

The series was created by Zak Penn and executive produced by Glen Mazzara. Several executive producers, including James and Headey, are involved in the production.

Marnie McPhail, Daniel Malik, and Cyrus Faird also star in the series. Watch the trailer below.

While the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it suggests an external threat in addition to the tension between the two. Action sequences hint at the need for cooperation to defend the beacon from an unexpected siege. The trailer also suggests that there is a valuable object on the beacon, known as “The Artifact,” driving her efforts.
