As the countdown continues for the premiere of Poppa’s House on Monday, October 21 at 8:30 p.m. ET, CBS has been dropping sneak peeks that only heighten our excitement.
The first teaser shows Damon Wayans’ character, Poppa, whose on-air conversations always veer towards the topic of sex. In the clip, he hilariously interacts with his new co-host, played by Essence Atkins, before realizing she’ll be a regular on his show.
The second sneak peek features a humorous exchange between Damon Wayans and his son, Damon Wayans Jr., as they discuss ownership of their space.
Check out the final sneak peek from the pilot episode here. It showcases Tetona Jackson’s character, Nina, and Damon Wayans Jr. discussing private school.
The series stars Damon Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr., Essence Atkins, and Tetona Jackson, with recurring appearances from Wendy Raquel Robinson and guest spots from Tommy Davidson and Lamorne Morris. The lineup alone is enticing.
Poppa’s House follows the life of a legendary talk radio host, affectionately known as Poppa, whose life takes a comedic turn as he navigates both his professional and personal worlds. The show logline describes Poppa as a “happily divorced” father whose beliefs are challenged by his new dynamic co-host (Essence Atkins) and his adult son, who struggles to balance his creative passions with his responsibilities as a husband and father.
Tetona Jackson plays Nina, Wayans Jr.’s on-screen wife, while Wendy Raquel Robinson appears as Poppa’s ex-wife and Wayans Jr.’s character’s mother. Special appearances in a February episode include Morris and Davidson. Morris will play Todd, a film school buddy encouraging Wayans Jr.’s character to return to filmmaking, while Davidson will portray Jarnold, a long-time acquaintance of Poppa with a playful rapport.
Produced by CBS Studios, the series boasts impressive talent behind the scenes. Kevin Hench serves as executive producer and co-writer of the pilot alongside Wayans. Directed by Andy Ackerman, the series promises fast-paced humor and sharp dialogue. Kameron Tarlow, through Wayans Jr.’s Two Shakes Entertainment, also produces the show.
