Chris Rock is set to direct and star in Misty Green, a new feature film that dives into the complex world of Hollywood’s highs and lows. Rock, who also stars in the film, brings an original script that follows the journey of Misty, a highly talented yet troubled actress who has repeatedly derailed her own career due to personal struggles. When Jordan (Rock), a director with the perfect role for her, re-enters her life, Misty finds an unexpected chance for a comeback—if the unresolved tension between them doesn’t get in the way. Casting for other roles is currently underway.
Producing alongside Rock is industry vet Peter Rice, joined by James Lopez from MACRO Film Studios and Tommy Oliver from Confluential Films. The executive producer lineup features Charles D. King for MACRO and Codie Elaine Oliver for Confluential, bringing together powerhouse production teams known for spotlighting narratives that delve into cultural depth and social impact.
The film package, with Neon International handling foreign rights and CAA Media Finance covering domestic rights, is set to debut at the American Film Market (AFM) next week. This new project underscores Rock’s commitment to storytelling that probes deeper into Hollywood dynamics, marking his first directorial project since Top Five (2014). Rock has also taken on a range of recent projects, from his Netflix special Selective Outrage to roles in Rustin, Amsterdam, and Spiral: From the Book of Saw.
Alongside acting, Rock serves as executive producer and narrator for Everybody Still Hates Chris, the animated reimagining of his iconic autobiographical show Everybody Hates Chris.
Rock’s latest collaboration with Neon International is set against a competitive backdrop at AFM, where titles like Splitsville starring Dakota Johnson and Steven Soderbergh’s Presence will also be introduced.
