Peacock has greenlit Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show, a three-part documentary series celebrating the legacy of The Wendy Williams Show, set to air in 2027.
The docuseries is being spearheaded by Suzzanne Bass, who served as executive producer on The Wendy Williams Show for 13 of its 14 seasons and will bring firsthand insight into the show’s place in pop culture. More than 20 former staffers will also share behind-the-scenes experiences and memories. Williams herself is not involved in the project.
According to Peacock, the series chronicles Williams’ rise from unlikely beginnings as a radio host to redefining the daytime talk genre, while also shedding light on the complicated truths about the cost of fame and answering lingering questions surrounding her infamous exit from her own show.
The documentary takes a different approach from previous projects about Williams. While Lifetime’s Where Is Wendy Williams? and Wendy Williams: What a Mess focused on her health crises and guardianship, Clap If You Care appears primarily focused on celebrating her career and the cultural impact of her show.
The Wendy Williams Show ran from 2008 to June 2022. Williams had taken a leave of absence beginning in 2021 due to complications from lymphedema and Graves’ disease, with guest hosts filling her spot through the final season. In 2024, her team disclosed she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Williams has since disputed claims of cognitive impairment and continues to petition to have her court-appointed guardianship removed.
The series is executive produced by Ian Orefice, Jon Adler, Amanda Spain and Missy Walker for EverWonder Studio, alongside Chris Witherspoon, Vanessa Golembewski and Bass.
