Colin Farrell is back on the case. Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for the second season of Sugar, the neo-noir mystery series created by Mark Protosevich, confirming a June 19 premiere date for the eight-episode season.
Farrell returns as John Sugar, the film-obsessed private investigator whose new case finds him searching for the missing older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer. The investigation quickly expands into something far darker, pulling Sugar into a sinister citywide conspiracy while he continues his own desperate search for his missing sister. As the stakes rise, the season poses a central question: how far is Sugar willing to go to do what is right?
For those who made it through Season 1, the official synopsis offers a knowing nod to the show’s climactic reveal, describing Sugar as a detective who “stayed on Earth” in hopes of finding his sister.
The new season introduces a fresh ensemble alongside Farrell, with Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, and Sasha Calle joining the cast, along with special guest star Shea Whigham. Sam Catlin takes over as showrunner and executive producer, with Audrey Chon, Simon Kinberg, Farrell, Scott Greenberg, and Chip Vucelich also producing.
Shot almost entirely on location in Los Angeles, the series leans fully into the city’s noir mythology. Farrell credited that authenticity as a major draw for returning. “Most shows and most films, some that are even set here, take place elsewhere,” he said. “To shoot on the streets of LA and have it as a character in the show was something that drew me back.”
Sugar Season 2 premieres June 19 on Apple TV+.
