Colman Domingo, Danai Gurira, and Marisa Tomei to Star in 'Barbecue' Film Adaptation

Tony nominee Robert O’Hara is bringing his acclaimed play “Barbecue” to the silver screen, with a star-studded cast that includes Colman Domingo, Danai Gurira, and Marisa Tomei.

“Barbecue” made its stage debut in 2015 at The Public Theater., captivating audiences with its comedic portrayal of the O’Mallerys, a dysfunctional family staging an intervention for their sister Barbara amidst her drug addiction struggles.

This cinematic adaptation sees O’Hara in the director’s chair, building on his previous collaborations with Domingo, such as “Wild With Happy” at The Public Theater in 2012. Gurira, known for her work in “Black Panther,” joins the team after her recent stint in “Richard III” at The Public Theater.

“Barbecue” is set to deliver a blend of humor and poignant storytelling, exploring themes of family dynamics, addiction, and societal pressures. Deadline first reported the news following O’Hara’s signing with CAA.
