(Almost) nothing has changed in trailer for Summer Camp
Alfre Woodard, Diane Keaton, and Kathy Bates are set to bring a blend of laughter and nostalgia to the big screen in the upcoming comedy film “Summer Camp.” The trio, who have each left their mark on Hollywood with award-winning performances, will star in a heartwarming yet humorous tale of friendship and rediscovery. The film’s first trailer introduces audiences to the trio and their ensemble cast that includes Dennis Haysbert, Eugene Levy, Josh Peck, Nicole Richie, Betsy Sodaro, and Beverly D’Angelo.
Written and directed by Castille Landon, known for “After Everything,” “Summer Camp” follows Nora (played by Keaton), Ginny (played by Bates), and Mary (played by Woodard), lifelong friends who have been close friends since they were children, and have spent their summer vacations together without fail, attending sleepaway camp as a trio. As they have aged, their opportunities to spend time together have dwindled, and thus, when the chance for a summer camp reunion presents itself, they all accept it, albeit with different levels of enthusiasm.
In a statement to PEOPLE about the project, Woodard, 71, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “All I ever really wanted to do is go outside and play!” Her sentiment reflects the film’s underlying theme of reconnecting with the joy of youth and cherished friendships.
Keaton, 78, not only stars in the film but also serves as a producer. She revealed that one of the film’s most challenging scenes involved river rafting, showcasing the comedic and adventurous elements audiences can expect.
The chemistry among the lead actors is palpable, with Keaton highlighting the joy of working alongside Bates and Woodard. Additionally, Eugene Levy’s presence adds a touch of romance and humor to the narrative, promising a delightful mix of emotions and laughter.
“Summer Camp” is scheduled for theatrical release on May 31, offering audiences a refreshing and entertaining cinematic experience as they dive into a world of laughter, friendship, and rediscovery.
