Get ready to chase waterfalls onstage. CrazySexyCool, the upcoming musical celebrating the iconic journey of TLC, is officially set to make its world premiere at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. in June 2026 — with a Broadway run already in the cards.
The production, billed as a “(mostly true) story of unshakable sisterhood,” centers on the real-life bond and breakthroughs of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas — the groundbreaking trio behind anthems like “Creep,” “Waterfalls,” “Unpretty,” and “No Scrubs.” It will run for eight weeks in DC as part of Arena Stage’s 75th anniversary season.
Though no Broadway dates have been locked in, sources say a New York transfer is definitely in the works.
The musical is being brought to life by writer-director Kwame Kwei-Armah, known for One Love: The Bob Marley Musical and former artistic director of London’s Young Vic. Choreography will be led by Chloe O. Davis, whose credits span Paradise Square, Hell’s Kitchen, and most recently as associate choreographer for Broadway’s Gypsy.
Behind the production is Bill Diggins of Diggit Theatrical Group, with Stephen Gabriel on board as executive producer. Gabriel’s past work includes Jagged Little Pill, Ain’t Too Proud, The Who’s Tommy, and The Roommate.
TLC — formed in Atlanta in 1990 — remains one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, with over 95 million records sold worldwide and four No. 1 hits. Their rise was marked by chart-topping success and complicated chapters, including creative differences, financial disputes, and the devastating loss of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002, following a fatal car crash in Honduras.
“TLC completely changed the game,” said producer Bill Diggins. “Their music gave a voice to women everywhere, empowering them to be confident and unapologetic. But this isn’t just a story about the music — it’s about the sisterhood that held these women together through everything.”
For the remaining members of TLC, this musical is more than just a walk down memory lane.
“Bringing this story to the stage is a dream come true,” said T-Boz. “We’ve toured the world, but sharing our story and our music in the theater is a new and exciting challenge.”
Chilli added, “We’ve got some of the best people in the business helping us tell this story — it’s mostly fact, with a sprinkle of fiction — and of course, it’s all set to the hits you know and love.”
Casting for the show has yet to be announced, but with all eyes on Arena Stage next summer, CrazySexyCool is already shaping up to be a can’t-miss celebration of music, resilience, and sisterhood — the TLC way.
