The full trailer for Peacock’s “Friday the 13th” prequel series arrived Sunday, teasing Pamela’s unraveling grief ahead of the show’s October 15 premiere.
The full trailer for Crystal Lake, Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel series, dropped Sunday, offering the deepest look yet at Pamela Voorhees’s descent into grief and violence before she became the franchise’s original killer.
Set in 1971, the trailer opens with Pam (Linda Cardellini) working as a lunch lady at Camp Crystal Lake, before her son Jason drowns. “I don’t want to heal,” she tells a local cop played by William Catlett. “I want to find my son.” As the series progresses, Pam appears to become increasingly convinced Jason is still alive in the woods, showing signs of dissociation, including one moment where she wakes up beside a large knife. Bodies begin piling up around town, with some residents suspecting bears while others may know the darker truth.
The official synopsis describes Pam as a single mother unable to shake her grief nearly a year after Jason’s tragic drowning. When two strangers arrive at her door digging into her past, the synopsis notes, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the town wondering who Pam Voorhees really is.
Alongside Cardellini and Catlett, the series stars Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom, with Callum Vinson playing young Jason. Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik round out the recurring cast.
Crystal Lake is produced by A24, with Brad Caleb Kane (IT: Welcome to Derry) serving as creator, writer, and showrunner. He executive produces alongside Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox, and Roy Lee. Lennox, the directing duo of Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran directed episodes.
The series has had a long road to the screen, first receiving a series order back in October 2022. Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller was originally attached as showrunner before stepping down in 2024, with Kane taking over the project.
Crystal Lake marks the latest expansion of the Friday the 13th franchise, which has produced 12 feature films since the original 1980 slasher, including 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason and a 2009 remake. A previous television series, Friday the 13th: The Series, aired from 1987 to 1990 for 72 episodes, but had no connection to Pamela or Jason Voorhees beyond its title.
All eight episodes of Crystal Lake premiere October 15 on Peacock.
