Dave Chappelle’s ending the year with a new stand up special on Netflix and when we say ending the year, it will premiere on the last day of 2023.
Dave Chappelle is set to close out 2023 with a bang, as Netflix announced a new stand-up special premiering on December 31. The untitled special was revealed through a teaser featuring Chappelle’s iconic “C” logo illuminated with neon lighting, accompanied by the roaring cheers of a crowd and none other than the voice of….Morgan Freeman. In the quick clip you hear Freeman’s voice stating: “He’s back, folks.” The new special is the seventh that he has released with the streaming giant.

His Netflix streak began in 2017 with “The Age of Spin,” “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” “Equanimity,” and “The Bird Revelation.” He continued with “Stick & Stones” in 2019 and “The Closer” in 2021, the latter earning him a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. The latter also being his most controversial.
Despite his success, Chappelle has faced criticism, particularly for perceived transphobic content in “The Closer,” which led to a walkout and protests. The comedian has been vocal about his stance, even amidst calls from groups like the National Black Justice Coalition to remove the special from Netflix due to its alleged perpetuation of transphobia.
