The debut feature from the AT&T Untold Stories winner arrives on the streamer June 19.
David Fortune had a movie idea and a $1 million prize to make it happen. The result is Color Book, his directorial debut, and it is coming to Netflix on June 19.
The intimate black-and-white drama follows Lucky, a devoted father played by William Catlett, who after the loss of his wife must learn to raise his son Mason as a single parent. Mason, who has Down Syndrome, is played by Jeremiah Daniels in his film debut. Together, the two embark on a journey through Metro Atlanta to attend their very first baseball game. Brandee Evans and Terri J. Vaughn also star.

Fortune won the AT&T Untold Stories competition at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, which came with a $1 million prize and year-round mentorship to develop the project into a feature. The film made its debut at Tribeca before landing Fortune on Variety’s 2025 Directors to Watch list, a distinction previously held by the likes of Taika Waititi, Chloe Zhao, and Luca Guadagnino.
“Color Book is a heartfelt story about love, family, and the communities we come from,” Fortune said. “I’m truly excited for audiences around the world to experience this emotional journey on Netflix and connect with these characters in a real and meaningful way.”
Naturi Naughton, Two Lewis, Tyler Edgarton, and Korstiaan Vandiver serve as executive producers. Producers include Kiah Alexandria Clingman, Kristen Uno, and Autumn Bailey-Ford. Christopher Escobar and Saleah Smith co-produce.
Color Book premieres on Netflix on June 19.
