DeSean Terry of “The Morning Show” and playwright Nikkole Salter are teaming up to turn Salter’s play “Lines in the Dust” into a feature film under Terry’s Think Switch Entertainment banner. The film will delve into the issue of school residency fraud, focusing on a Black woman facing prosecution for this crime in Newark, NJ, highlighting systemic inequities in education access.

“Lines in the Dust” tackles the pervasive issue of school residency fraud against the backdrop of Newark, NJ, drawing inspiration from real-life cases. The play, and now its cinematic adaptation, sheds light on this silent but widespread crime, especially prevalent in communities of color across America. The film promises to delve deep into the challenges faced by marginalized communities in ensuring quality education for their children, highlighting systemic inequities along the way.

Nikkole Salter gained acclaim for co-writing and performing in the Pulitzer Prize-nominated play “In the Continuum” with Danai Gurira. She currently chairs the Theatre Arts Department at Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts.

DeSean Terry, known for his role in “The Morning Show,” directed the West Coast premiere of “Lines in the Dust” to rave reviews. The film adaptation aims to continue the conversation about social justice and educational disparities.
