Comedian and actor Druski is the latest to join the cast of The Catch, Universal’s highly anticipated baseball rom-com starring Emma Stone and Chris Pine.
While the official logline is being kept under wraps, it has previously been reported that Stone plays a baseball fan who accidentally alters the trajectory of a game-winning catch. SNL breakout Ashley Padilla also recently joined the cast, continuing a string of exciting additions to what is shaping up to be one of the more buzzworthy comedies on the studio’s calendar. Sources say Druski will play Stone’s security guard in the film, which is being described as a two-hander in the vein of Bull Durham and Notting Hill.
Dave McCary directs from a script by Jen Statsky, known for her work on Hacks, and Travis Helwig, based on an original spec by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin. It was a recent draft of the script that ultimately convinced Stone to commit to the project, and once Chris Pine came aboard, the film was a go. Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting produce through Fruit Tree’s first-look deal with Universal Pictures, a deal the studio struck after landing the film in 2024, alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Levine through 21 Laps, and Michael H. Weber. Robin Fisichella will executive produce. Senior EVP of Production Development Erik Baiers and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell oversee the project for the studio.
For Druski, the role adds to a growing film resume that already includes the 2024 comedy Praise This, and signals a clear pivot toward leading Hollywood productions. The multi-hyphenate is also gearing up for one of the biggest nights of his career as host of the 2026 BET Awards, broadcasting live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 28. At just 31 years old, he will make history as the youngest host in the award show’s 25-year history. On the development side, Druski’s viral short film The Diggers, a dark comedy about a man who inherits his late father’s funeral home, is being adapted into a feature-length buddy comedy through his production company 4LIFERS Entertainment in partnership with Kenya Barris and Khalabo Ink Society.
The Catch is set to hit theaters May 21, 2027.
