Based on Ben Mezrich’s book, “The Antisocial Network,” “Dumb Money” tells a gripping story of how a group of internet-savvy investors rallied together to disrupt the stock market. Their target? Described as a modern-day David versus Goliath tale, “Dumb Money” draws inspiration from iconic economic classics like “The Social Network.” The film delves into the absurdity of the situation, with the Reddit community r/WallStreetBets leading the charge to invest in GameStop and drive its stock price to unprecedented heights. As excitement spread across the internet, more and more investors joined the movement, causing panic on Wall Street. While hedge funds faced staggering losses, ordinary people reveled in their newfound profits.

The Red Band trailer provides a glimpse into different perspectives on the GameStop short squeeze. Audiences will witness the individuals responsible for the meteoric rise of the stock, as well as the billionaires desperately attempting to salvage their financial empires. Notable actors in the film include Paul Dano, who portrays real-life YouTuber Keith Gill, whose insights fueled the frenzy, and Seth Rogen, playing Gabe Plotkin, the head of Melvin Capital and one of the hedge fund managers profoundly impacted by these events.

Joining the star-studded cast are Vincent D’Onofrio and Nick Offerman, portraying fellow billionaires Cohen and Ken Griffin, respectively. The film also features Sebastian Stan, Pete Davidson, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, and Talia Ryder. With Gillespie, known for his success with “I, Tonya,” at the helm, “Dumb Money” promises to captivate audiences with its compelling narrative.

Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum have skillfully adapted Mezrich’s book for the screen, while also serving as executive producers alongside Mezrich himself, John Friedberg, Michael Heimler, Johnny Holland, Andrew Swett, Kevin Ulrich, Cameron Winklevoss, and Tyler Winklevoss.

Currently in post-production, “Dumb Money” is set to premiere in theaters on October 20, courtesy of Stage 6 Films and Sony Pictures Releasing. This highly anticipated film promises to deliver an engaging and enthralling experience for audiences, as it brings the GameStop frenzy to life like never before. Get ready to buckle up for a wild ride!
