Disney+ has dropped a first look at Eyes of Wakanda via Entertainment Weekly, the highly anticipated animated spinoff series expanding the Black Panther legacy. Produced by Marvel Studios Animation and Proximity Media, with Ryan Coogler on board as a producer, the series is set to debut on the streamer on August 6.
The voice cast features Cress Williams (Black Lightning) as the Lion, Winnie Harlow as Noni, and Anika Noni Rose (The Princess and the Frog) in a role that’s said to be one of the most crucial to the series. They’re joined by Steve Toussaint, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, and Zeke Alton.
Eyes of Wakanda promises a globe-trotting adventure that jumps through time, weaving together a narrative that’s as epic as it is intimate. Described by showrunner and director Todd Harris as “anthology adjacent,” the show is a collection of short stories set in different eras of Wakandan history, each one centered around the legendary Hatut Zaraze—the Dogs of War—tasked with reclaiming Vibranium artifacts from Wakanda’s enemies.
While full plot details remain tightly under wraps, first-look images reveal striking glimpses of warriors who embody the spirit and principles of a 10,000-year-old society. Harris teases a story that’s part spy thriller, part historical epic, and all heart. Think James Bond—sometimes Jane Bond—decked out in the awe-inspiring world of Wakanda.
The series will also feature characters beyond Wakanda, echoing the interconnectedness of global history. Harris says fans can expect a few surprises, with nods to Marvel lore and real-world historical touchpoints that span cultures and continents.
Set against the backdrop of the MCU’s Sacred Timeline, Eyes of Wakanda marks the first animated entry in Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media lending its creative touch, this series aims to expand the narrative tapestry of the Black Panther universe, blending espionage, myth, and global intrigue.
Eyes of Wakanda will premiere with four episodes on Disney+ on August 6.
