‘F.A.S.T.,’ Featuring LaKeith Stanfield and Trevante Rhodes, Gets May 2027 Release Date

Warner Bros. has shifted the release date for F.A.S.T. from April 23 to May 14, 2027, moving the Taylor Sheridan-written action thriller to a frame where it will be the only major studio wide release, away from Amazon MGM Studios’ Spaceballs: The New One and Neon’s A Place in Hell.

The film has had a long road to the screen. Sheridan wrote the script in the mid-2010s when he was one of Hollywood’s hottest screenwriters, with Warner Bros. picking it up and Sheridan initially wanting to direct himself, with Chris Pratt eyed for the lead role. Director Gavin O’Connor eventually came aboard, but when ownership of the studio changed hands the project was briefly considered as a direct-to-HBO Max film before being put into turnaround. It has now been reacquired for a major theatrical release.

F.A.S.T. marks the feature directorial debut of Ben Richardson, Sheridan’s longtime collaborator who helmed nearly every episode of 1923. The film follows a former special forces commando, down on his luck after returning stateside, who is tapped by the DEA to lead a black-ops strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers operating in his own town.

Brandon Sklenar, who starred in 1923 alongside Sheridan’s collaborators, leads the cast as the commando. He is joined by LaKeith Stanfield, Trevante Rhodes, Sam Claflin, Jason Clarke and Juliana Canfield, playing a range of roles from DEA agents to the commando’s former Delta Force colleagues.

Stanfield’s recent credits include Play Dirty and the upcoming Die, My Love and Roofman. Rhodes, best known for his Oscar-winning performance in Moonlight, most recently appeared in Tyler Perry’s Mea Culpa. Claflin will next be seen in Prime Video’s Lazarus and Vanished. Clarke stars in the upcoming Apple TV+ series The Last Frontier.

David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford produce for Heyday Films alongside Sheridan and Jenny Wood for Bosque Ranch Productions.

F.A.S.T. opens May 14, 2027.
