First Look at ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 as Production Begins + (ICYMI) Storm Reid Confirms Her Departure

It’s been a long wait, but Euphoria season 3 is finally underway. HBO just dropped a first-look photo of Zendaya’s Rue, standing in a dimly lit room and peering over her shoulder, signaling the official start of production. The caption kept it short and sweet: “Euphoria season 3 is in production.”

This long-delayed season comes nearly three years after season 2 premiered, aligning with HBO’s plan to begin filming in early 2025. While the show’s return is exciting, the new season arrives with some notable changes—most importantly, Storm Reid, who plays Rue’s younger sister Gia, will not be returning.

“I’m very excited for season 3,” Reid said at the Governors Awards red carpet. “Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning to the third season, but I’m so indebted to the cast and crew of that show and to HBO. Euphoria is really special, and I’m grateful it’s a part of my legacy.”

Reid’s absence marks a shift for the show, which is already set to take a creative leap forward. Zendaya previously revealed that the new season will include a time jump, moving its younger characters out of high school into the next phase of their lives.

As for the rest of the cast, Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, and Colman Domingo will all be back for season 3. Sam Levinson, the show’s creator and showrunner, is rumored to be taking a more film-noir-inspired approach for this new chapter.

Reid’s departure isn’t the only shakeup. Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat, announced her exit in 2023, calling it a “mutual decision” after her storyline had run its course. And in the most heartbreaking loss for Euphoria, Angus Cloud—who played the fan-favorite Fezco—tragically passed away in 2023. His absence will be deeply felt in the upcoming season.

The upcoming season will have eight episodes, with filming expected to wrap in summer 2025. Given the busy schedules of its A-list cast—Zendaya, Sweeney, and Elordi are all juggling multiple film projects—it’s no surprise that production took some time to get off the ground.

Season 3 of Euphoria has a lot to live up to. The series has already racked up 25 Emmy nominations and nine wins, including Zendaya’s historic back-to-back victories for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. With all eyes on what’s next, this season promises to be just as ambitious and emotionally charged as the last.

A premiere date has yet to be announced, but with production now in full swing, Euphoria season 3 is officially on the horizon.
