Florisa Kamara joins Lashana Lynch in the cast of Peacock’s upcoming series ‘The Day of the Jackal.’ Kamara, best known for her role in ‘EastEnders,’ joins the cast that also includes previously announced Eddie Redmayne.
The series is a contemporary reimagining of Frederick Forsyth’s novel and the 1973 film adaptation. Set against the current turbulent geopolitical landscape, it will explore the complex nature of the ‘anti-hero’ in greater depth.
Eddie Redmayne will portray The Jackal, a professional assassin hired by a French paramilitary dissident to kill French President Charles de Gaulle in 1962. Lashana Lynch plays Bianca, a tenacious law enforcement agent determined to capture The Jackal. Florisa Kamara will portray Jasmine, Bianca’s daughter.
‘The Day of the Jackal’ is written and showrun by Ronan Bennett, creator of ‘Top Boy.’ Brian Kirk will direct the series and it is produced by Universal International Studios’ Carnival Films, renowned for ‘Downton Abbey.’
Eddie Redmayne also serves as an executive producer alongside Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant of Carnival Films, and Sam Hoyle of Sky Studios. Marianne Buckland is co-executive producer, with Frederick Forsyth as consulting producer and Christopher Hall as producer.
Florisa Kamara’s recent work includes roles in BBC’s ‘Silverpoint,’ ‘EastEnders,’ and ‘Bulletproof.’ She also appeared in Disney’s ‘Cruella,’ directed by Craig Gillespie. Kamara is represented by Matt Sherman Management and Mark Jermin Management in the UK.
The 1973 version of ‘The Day of the Jackal,’ directed by Fred Zinnemann, is a critically acclaimed adaptation of Forsyth’s novel. The film starred Edward Fox as the enigmatic assassin and Michael Lonsdale as the determined French police detective on his trail. It was lauded for its meticulous attention to detail, suspenseful narrative, and compelling performances, earning it a place as a classic in the thriller genre.
‘The Day of the Jackal’ is scheduled to premiere later this year on Peacock.
