Netflix’s upcoming crime drama Nemesis, from Courtney A. Kemp (Power) and Tani Marole, has expanded its cast with the addition of Gabrielle Dennis (The Big Door Prize, The Upshaws) and Michael Potts (The Piano Lesson, The Wire). Both actors will star in series regular roles, with Dennis portraying Candace Stiles and Potts playing James Sealey.
They join a previously announced ensemble that includes Matthew Law, Y’lan Noel, Cleopatra Coleman, Tre Hale, Domenick Lombardozzi, Jonnie Park, and Ariana Guerra.
Set in Los Angeles, Nemesis follows the intense conflict between two men on opposite sides of the law. Y’lan Noel leads as Coltrane Wilder, a master thief known for executing impossible heists, while Matthew Law portrays Isaiah Stiles, a dedicated detective determined to bring him to justice.
Described as an action-packed thriller that redefines the heist genre, the series delves beyond the traditional crime narrative to explore themes of loyalty, survival, and the complexities of morality.
Kemp, best known for creating the Power franchise, serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Tani Marole, Chris Selak, Philipp Barnett, and Mario Van Peebles (Power Book III: Raising Kanan), who will direct and executive produce the first two episodes.
The series will be filmed in Los Angeles, a decision that Kemp and Marole emphasized as an important opportunity to support local production crews.
“Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix—specific in location, but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty versus self-preservation,” Kemp stated.
Netflix’s Vice President of Studio Scripted Series, Nne Ebong, also expressed enthusiasm for the project:
“Viewers are in for a ride with Nemesis, Courtney and Tani’s bold take on the crime drama genre. Courtney’s shows have proven to dominate culture and conversation, and it’s exciting to have this be the first project from our creative partnership.”
Nemesis is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated crime dramas. While a release date has yet to be announced, production is underway, and further updates are expected in the coming months.
