The Flossy Posse is coming back.
Producer Will Packer announced on Good Morning America that despite the woes of the pandemic Girls Trip 2 is underway.
“Can’t we all use a post-pandemic trip, my friend? I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at ‘GMA’: the ‘Girls Trip 2’ sequel, we are underway,” said Packer.
We are absolutely in the stages, the ladies are in; I just talked to the director. We are underway with Girls Trip 2, and now it’s just about what kind of trip do we take, right?. Post-pandemic with all our favorite crazy ladies, what do we do with them? That’s what we got to figure out.

Packer wasn’t the only one updating us on deets for Girls Trip 2. During Variety Studio presented by Audible at Sundance, co-writer Tracey Oliver said she had a “definitive ‘Girls Trip 2’ update. That it’s officially happening. I can say that.” She also provided a plot update, and while the film’s producer Will Packer “might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”
One of Oliver’s “Harlem” stars, actor Shoniqua Shandai, screamed “Afrochella!” after Oliver dropped the news. She refers to the annual Afrochella festival, Ghana’s premiere cultural and music event whose name borrows from the American flower crown convention Coachella. Oliver confirmed that the ladies of “Girls Trip” will look to attend the festival.
Packer produced the original film in 2017 which starred Jada Pinkett-Smith, Regina Hall, and Queen Latifah, and Tiffany Haddish as four college friends who take a girls trip to Essence annual music festival in New Orleans.
Official synopsis read: Four best friends, known as the Flossy Posse, have grown apart over the years. Yet when one of the friends is offered an opportunity to be a keynote speaker at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, she decides to bring along her friends to turn her work vacation into a girl’s trip. Along the way, they rekindle their wild side by dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to excess.
Girls Trip, which turns five this summer, was written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, who both co-created the story with Erica Rivinoja. Surprisingly enough, it was based on an actual experience that Tracy and Erica had.
Malcolm D. Lee directed the film.
Girls Trip grossed $140.9 million worldwide against a net production budget of $20-28 million.

While there aren’t any details on the plot of Girls Trip 2, from what Packer said, it appears that the original cast and director are all apart of the sequel.
There is no word when the film will be released but we can’t wait to see it.
