Max is doubling down on its sports betting comedy “Bookie,” starring Omar Dorsey and Sebastian Maniscalco. The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed streaming service has officially renewed the series for a second season. This announcement comes on the heels of the show’s first-season wrap on December 21.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay, “Bookie” debuted on November 30, featuring Sebastian Maniscalco as the lead character, Danny, alongside his partner, former NFL star Ray, played by Omar Dorsey. The storyline revolves around the duo navigating the complexities of running an illegal sports betting operation in Los Angeles.

Jorge Garcia, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, and Maxim Swinton complete the ensemble cast. The series has been praised for its comedic exploration of the underbelly of illegal sports gambling.

Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of Programming and Head of Comedy at HBO and Max, expressed excitement about the collaboration between Chuck and Sebastian, calling it a “winning hand.” The show is a product of Lorre’s production studio, Warner Bros. Television.

Congratulations also poured in from Warner Bros. Television Chairman Channing Dungey:

“There’s no doubt that Chuck and Nick’s Bookie won big this season as they took us on a hilarious ride into the underbelly of illegal sports gambling, featuring a cast led by another dynamic duo: Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar J. Dorsey. I’m looking forward to watching more of their antics in Season 2. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew, and thanks to our partners at Max.”

Season 2 is expected to delve into the aftermath of Danny’s Super Bowl win, exploring the impact on his relationship with his wife, Sandra (Andrea Anders). Additionally, the storyline will address Ray’s challenges following his mother’s wedding, where the groom appeared to meet an unfortunate fate.

“Bookie” has also gained attention for reuniting Chuck Lorre with his former “Two and a Half Men” star, Charlie Sheen, who makes guest appearances as himself in both the premiere and season one finale.
