Henry Cavill Joins Kevin Hart in Netflix’s Upcoming Spy Comedy

McG to direct untitled action comedy about rival spies who meet in a Lamaze class

Henry Cavill is joining previously announced co-lead Kevin Hart in an untitled spy-action comedy coming to Netflix. The film, directed by McG, pairs the two as rival spies whose worlds become intertwined after their wives meet and bond in a Lamaze class. As their secret lives begin to collide in both hilarious and dangerous ways, the two men are forced to reluctantly join forces while navigating the chaos of impending fatherhood.

The project is based on a short story by Sean Lewis, with the screenplay written by Adam and Aaron Nee and Jonathan Tropper. The Nee brothers are no strangers to the action-comedy genre, having previously penned The Lost City starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, and they are also attached to the upcoming Masters of the Universe.

The film boasts a heavyweight producing lineup. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing through 21 Laps, while Ryan Reynolds, George Dewey, and Patrick Gooing come aboard via Maximum Effort. Hart is also producing through his Hartbeat banner alongside Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley. Emily Morris will executive produce for 21 Laps.

For McG, the project marks a return to familiar territory. The director broke into feature films with the Charlie’s Angels films in the early 2000s and later helmed the spy-action comedy This Means War, starring Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, and Reese Witherspoon. His more recent work has been exclusively for Netflix, spanning genres from horror comedy to family films. He is currently in post-production on Warrior Kid, starring Chris Pratt, for Apple.

Cavill arrives at the project with a packed slate. He can currently be seen opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Guy Ritchie’s action thriller In the Grey, and will next appear alongside Millie Bobby Brown in Enola Holmes 3, hitting Netflix on July 1. He is also set to headline Amazon MGM’s Highlander reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski, as well as Rawson Marshall Thurber’s Voltron.

Hart, meanwhile, maintains a strong relationship with Netflix. He hosts the comedy competition series Funny AF on the platform, and stars in the upcoming comedy 72 Hours, directed by Tim Story, premiering July 24.

No release date for the untitled spy comedy has been announced.
