Hulu has renewed Furious for a second season, an unusually early pickup that comes just four days before the Season 1 finale streams on August 31.
Created, written and executive produced by Elizabeth Meriwether, the mind behind New Girl, The Dropout and Dying for Sex, Furious follows FBI agent Alice Black (Rossum) on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer (Lola Petticrew). As their respective paths toward justice begin to intersect, the line between right and wrong starts to blur. The series is loosely inspired by the 1987 psychological thriller Black Widow.
The cast also includes Quincy Tyler Bernstine as Alice’s FBI colleague Nora Washington and Scoot McNairy as NYPD homicide detective Danny Kelly, with Jake Lacy, Rob Delaney, Hope Davis, Rob Yang and Steve Way as guest stars.
The thriller series has become a breakout hit for the streamer, with viewership growing week over week since its July 27 premiere. One-day views for Episode 7 were up 40% compared to the premiere, and the show is believed to be the number one series on Disney+/Hulu worldwide for the month of August and the number two freshman drama on Hulu in the US year to date. It has also accumulated 4 billion cross-media impressions. The series currently holds a 98% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Meriwether and Rossum both return as executive producers for Season 2. Rossum executive produces through her Composition 8 banner alongside Ronald Bass, Matt Olmstead and Sam Hoffman. Brian Kirk executive produced and directed the first two episodes. The series is produced by 20th Television and Searchlight Television.
