Hulu has unveiled an exciting sneak peek of its upcoming original series titled “The Other Black Girl,” produced by Onyx Collective and based on the bestselling novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris. Mark your calendars for September 13, as Hulu will premiere all 10 thrilling episodes exclusively on its streaming platform.

The series revolves around Nella, an editorial assistant who grapples with being the sole Black woman in her company. However, her world is turned upside down when Hazel, another Black woman from Harlem, joins the team and quickly becomes a rising star. As Hazel’s success soars, Nella finds herself spiraling into a disconcerting web of events, leading her to uncover a sinister secret within the company.

“The Other Black Girl” features a stellar cast including Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais.

This adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris’ debut thriller novel promises to be a captivating blend of social commentary and psychological suspense, with Cosmopolitan aptly describing it as a fusion of “Get Out” and “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Behind the scenes, the series boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey also serve as the co-showrunners, ensuring a cohesive and engaging storytelling experience.

Tara Duncan, the former Netflix executive who signed an overall deal with Hulu in 2020 and currently serves as the president of Freeform, will also contribute as an executive producer, further cementing the show’s creative prowess.

“The Other Black Girl” not only showcases Hulu’s commitment to inclusive storytelling but also aligns with Disney’s recent initiative, the Onyx Collective. Under the leadership of Tara Duncan, this brand aims to amplify the voices of creators of color and bring their work to the forefront. By presenting Onyx Collective as a content brand on Hulu, Disney emphasizes its dedication to diversity and representation in the entertainment industry.

It’s worth noting that Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl” initially began as a script-to-series development project at ABC during the 2019-20 season. Thanks to the collaboration with Onyx Collective, the series found a new home and an all-Black writing team led by Mohamed. The show’s evolution demonstrates the power of recognizing and nurturing talent from underrepresented communities.

As the premiere date approaches, anticipation for “The Other Black Girl” continues to build. Audiences can expect a gripping and thought-provoking narrative that delves into the complexities of race, power dynamics, and identity within the workplace.
