Jamal Dedeaux’s Dark Comedy ‘The Late Night Creep’ Drops Trailer Ahead of ABFF World Premiere

The sh*t hits the fan after the sun goes down in the first look trailer for The Late Night Creep, the upcoming dark comedy from writer-director Jamal Dedeaux (Three Ways).

The 95-minute film will have its world premiere as part of the 2025 American Black Film Festival’s festival’s narrative feature lineup, taking place June 11–15 in Miami Beach.

Jake Choi (Single Parents) leads the cast as an unhappily married man whose idea of a “harmless” date night with his college crush (played by Karen Obilom) turns into the worst night of his life. What starts off as a secret escape quickly spirals into a chaotic, morally murky, and hilarious descent into everything that could go wrong—and then some.

Joining Choi is an ensemble cast stacked with familiar and fresh faces: Tosin Morohunfola (Run the World), Jason Mitchell (Mudbound), Siddiq Saunderson, Ali Gallo, Lori Laing (That Damn Michael Che), Paula Jai Parker (Hustle & Flow), Lewis Belt (House Party), and Leslie Jones (SNL). Laci Mosley, Bechir Sylvain, and Rashida Olayiwola also star in the feature.

The project is produced by Dedeaux, Rebecca T. Haze, and Kris Simms, with casting led by Kim Williams.

While all the specific character details are still under wraps, the film looks to be a mix of sharp humor and uncomfortable truths—all unfolding during one very long, very unexpected night.

The Late Night Creep adds another buzzworthy title to ABFF’s already stacked 2025 slate. Now in its 29th year, the festival is known for platforming bold and culture-shifting stories by and about people of African descent, and this year’s lineup is no exception. From magical realism and thrillers to slice-of-life dramas and documentaries, the offerings span genres and borders, with entries from the U.S., U.K., South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, and beyond.

And just like its tagline says—For a married man, date night without the wife can be hell—this one sounds like a must-watch.

Check out the trailer for The Late Night Creep and stay tuned for more from ABFF 2025.
