Jay Ellis, Toby Sandeman, and Uche Agada are set to star in Mindy Kaling’s latest project, a basketball comedy series titled “Running Point,” slated to stream on Netflix.
They join series lead Kate Hudson, along with ensemble cast Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Max Greenfield, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Roberto Sanchez, and Dane DiLiegro.
In “Running Point,” Kate Hudson portrays Isla Gordon, who unexpectedly becomes President of the Los Angeles Waves, a renowned professional basketball franchise and family business, following a scandal involving her brother. As she enters this male-dominated world, Isla must prove her capabilities and leadership to her skeptical family and colleagues.
The series, consisting of 10 episodes, is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television.

Jay Ellis will have a major recurring role as Jay Brown, the seasoned Head Coach of the Waves, known for his zen-like approach that has led the team to multiple championships. Uche Agada will recur as Dyson Gibbs, a player promoted from the D-League by Isla, now a rookie eager to prove himself to the Waves. Toby Sandeman portrays Marcus Winfield, a seasoned athlete whose illustrious career has left him feeling disconnected and uninspired, adversely affecting the Waves’ performance.
Max Greenfield will recur as Lev Levy, a good-natured pediatrician and Isla’s supportive fiancé, while Dane DiLiegro will recur as Badrag Knauss, a blunt but thoughtful player on the Waves. Fabrizio Guido steps into the role of Jackie Moreno, a devoted popcorn vendor at the Waves’ stadium, whose life changes dramatically when given the chance to rise within the team.
Chet Hanks takes on the character of Travis Bugg, the team’s flamboyant point guard with a penchant for distractions both on and off the court. Keyla Monterroso Mejia embodies Ana Moreno, Jackie’s savvy cousin and a sharp-witted personal injury attorney always seeking opportunities. Roberto Sanchez will portray Stephen Ramirez, the formidable head of the Waves’ board, whose traditional mindset challenges Isla’s ambitions.
Kaling co-writes and executive produces the series alongside Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, with Stassen serving as showrunner. James Ponsoldt directs the first two episodes. Kate Hudson also serves as an executive producer alongside Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis. While an official release date is yet to be announced, fans can enjoy first-look images of the series.
