Jennifer Beals, best known for her iconic role in ‘Flashdance’, is set to star in the upcoming dramedy Hello Out There, which is set against the backdrop of New Mexico. Beals joins a cast that includes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet and Ted Lasso actor Phil Dunster. This marks the first feature film from writer-director Otis Blum.
The story follows Minnie, played by Bennet, a young journalist embarking on a cross-state road trip with her cousin Rex (Dunster), a punk rock guitarist fresh out of rehab. Their adventure, initially driven by a desire to investigate Area 51 and the mysteries of extraterrestrial life, gradually unravels into a more personal journey as hidden motivations come to light.
Beals takes on the role of Judith, an art dealer living in Santa Fe, who also happens to be Minnie’s mother-in-law. The two characters share a deep bond rooted in tragedy, adding emotional layers to the film’s plot.
Hello Out There was filmed over the summer in New Mexico and produced by Thomas Mahoney (Wild Indian, Only the Good Survive) through his company Handsome Watson, with production services provided by Purple Intuition.
Jennifer Beals became a pop culture icon in the 1980s with her Golden Globe-nominated role in Flashdance and is well-known for her portrayal of Bette Porter in Showtime’s The L Word and its sequel, The L Word: Generation Q. She has also collaborated with Denzel Washington on the neo-noir thriller Devil in a Blue Dress and the action film The Book of Eli. Beals’ recent work includes appearances in The Book of Boba Fett, Swamp Thing, and Law & Order: Organized Crime.
