Jonathan Majors Breaks Silence: Books First Interview on Good Morning America Following Guilty Verdict

Jonathan Majors has already lined up a new project, Da Understudy.

Majors, who has two back-to-back #1 movies in theaters right now is set to star in “Da Understudy” with Amazon Studios. He will also produce the movie under his Tall Street Productions banner, in collaboration with Westbrook Studios and Amazon. In addition to Majors, the film will be produced by Will Smith, Jon Mone, and Mike Soccio, with Spike Lee rumored to be in early talks to direct. If so, this will reunite the duo, Lee previously worked with Majors in the acclaimed 2020 Netflix film “Da 5 Bloods.”

The film’s plot revolves around the understudy of a Broadway production who finds himself willing to go to extreme lengths to secure the role he desires. The script, based on an original story by Tyler Cole, was written by Tom Hamada, Zach Stauss, and Cole and was acquired by Amazon Studios on spec.

This news comes hot on the heels of Majors’ back-to-back box office hits with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Creed III,” which broke franchise records with its $58.6 million domestic box office total. Majors starred as the villainous Kang the Conqueror in the former and as Adonis Creed’s former friend-turned-adversary in the latter.

Majors’ rising star has been on the ascent since his critically acclaimed performance in 2019’s “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” for which he earned nominations for a Gotham and Independent Spirit Award. His role in “Lovecraft Country” also earned him Emmy and Critics Choice nominations. Majors executive produced and starred in the Sundance Film Festival standout “Magazine Dreams” earlier this year, which went on to win the Creative Vision Award.

“Da Understudy” is just one of several projects in the works for Majors and Tall Street Productions. The company’s upcoming films include the adaptation of Walter Mosley’s novel “The Man in My Basement” and “48 Hours in Vegas,” in which Majors will portray NBA great Dennis Rodman.
