Jordan E. Cooper has officially joined the cast of Disney’s ‘Freaky Friday 2.’ He will star alongside returning cast members Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, Mark Harmon, and Chad Michael Murray, who will reprise their roles as Tess, Anna, Ryan Volvo, and Jake from the beloved 2003 original.
‘Freaky Friday 2’ introduces a multigenerational twist, picking up years after mother-daughter duo Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) experienced their body-swapping identity crisis. Now, Anna has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, adding complexity to their family dynamics. As the two families blend, Tess and Anna find themselves confronting a new set of challenges and discovering that lightning might indeed strike twice.
Cooper joins an ensemble of new cast members, including franchise newcomers Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Julia Butters, and Manny Jacinto. Original cast members Christina Vidal Mitchell (Maddie), Haley Hudson (Peg), Lucille Soong (Pei-Pei’s mom), Stephen Tobolowsky (Mr. Bates), and Rosalind Chao (Pei-Pei) are also set to reprise their roles in the sequel.
While Cooper’s role as Jett has been revealed, details about the characters portrayed by the other newcomers remain under wraps.
Nisha Ganatra (‘Late Night’) will direct the film from a script by Jordan Weiss, with the original film’s producer Andrew Gunn returning alongside Kristin Burr and Curtis. Executive producers include Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lohan.
The original ‘Freaky Friday,’ directed by Mark Waters, grossed over $160 million worldwide upon its release in 2003. The early millennium hit followed Tess Coleman, an overworked single mother and psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna. Constantly at odds due to their differing perspectives, they magically swap bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. Forced to live each other’s lives for a day, they gain a newfound understanding of one another.
Based on the children’s book of the same name by Mary Rodgers, ‘Freaky Friday’ was first adapted into a 1976 Disney movie starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris.
The eagerly awaited sequel to the 2003 body-swap classic is currently in production and is set to hit theaters nationwide in 2025 before heading to Disney+.
