Fans waiting on Jordan Peele’s next film will need to exercise patience as his Monkeypaw projects release dates has been postponed beyond 2024.

While most were unwinding during the pre-Christmas week, Universal discreetly removed both Monkeypaw Productions projects originally slated for September 27 and Christmas Day in 2024 — Peele was directing this one. The studio has yet to announce a new release date, attributing the delay to ‘strike-related’ issues. Peele’s film was initially set to compete with holiday releases like Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King,” and Focus Features’ horror film “Nosferatu.”

To fill the December 25 slot, Universal has chosen Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Willem Dafoe. Additionally, Lionsgate capitalized on the September 27 opening by scheduling the release of Saw XI.

This news follows the recent announcement of the 44-year-old director’s collaboration with Selena Gomez on an adaptation of the graphic novel Coyotes.

Peele has been notoriously secretive about his projects, and details about the plot, stars, and genre for the fourth film remain unknown. However, fans can expect the same level of suspense and storytelling that Peele brought to his previous films. Peele’s debut feature film, “Get Out,” was a massive critical and commercial success, grossing over $255 million worldwide and earning four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. His follow-up film, “Us,” was also a box office hit, bringing in over $255 million globally.

Peele’s most recent film, “Nope,” which he wrote and directed, hit theaters in 2022 and grossed over $170 million globally. As a producer, Peele has backed other acclaimed films, such as Spike Lee’s Oscar-nominated “BlacKkKlansman” and Nia DaCosta’s “Candyman” remake, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The release of Peele’s fourth film will follow the release of James Cameron’s “Avatar 3” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which are set to debut on Dec. 20, 2024. Universal’s adaptation of the popular musical “Wicked” was initially slated for release on the same weekend but was pushed up to Thanksgiving.

The untitled fourth film will mark Peele’s fourth directorial effort after “Get Out,” “Us,” and “Nope.” Fans of Peele’s work can expect more of his signature style of storytelling and suspense when the film hits theaters on Christmas Day, 2024.
