Amazon’s original series, “THEM,” is set to return with its second season, “THEM: The Scare,” following a two-year hiatus. A new Prime Video reel highlights the 2024 shows and movies to come, including the release window for THEM season 2.
The debut season, titled “Covenant,” premiered on Prime Video in April 2021, receiving acclaim for its compelling narrative set in 1953 Los Angeles. The story revolved around a Black family navigating the challenges of an all-White neighborhood, featuring a stellar cast, including Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas, Alison Pill, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Melody Hurd, and Ryan Kwanten.
In the upcoming season, “THEM: The Scare,” scheduled for release in 2024, the narrative shifts to 1991 Los Angeles County. LAPD Detective Dawn Reeve (played by Deborah Ayorinde) takes center stage as she investigates a gruesome murder that shakes the entire department. The ensemble cast includes new additions Pam Grier, Luke James, Joshua J. Williams, and Jeremy Bobb, alongside Iman Shumpert, Wayne Knight, Charles Brice, and Carlito Olivero.
Grier will portray Dawn’s mother, Athena. She’s eticulous, clever and prideful, but her mama bear qualities hide secrets. James plays Edmund Gaines, an aspiring actor who appears to be a sensitive soul but has a deep void within him. Former NBA player Shumpert plays Dawn’s ex, Corey, a musician who’s frequently on the road.
Williams is cast as Kelvin “Kel” Reeve, Dawn’s teenage son, who’s harboring a secret from both his mom and his grandmother. And Bobb will play Detective Ronald McKinney, Dawn’s partner, who has a reputation for closing cases quickly and through sometimes questionable means.
Knight recurs as Lt. Schiff, Dawn’s supervisor at the LAPD. Olivero will play Joaquin Diaz, a newly minted detective who wants to impress Dawn. Brice plays Reggie Marks, a stylish and charming attorney for the city of Los Angeles.
Them is a co-production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios. Series creator Little Marvin serves as showrunner and executive produces with Miri Yoon and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Steve Prinz.
