Jumanji is no longer contained. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, the third and final installment in the franchise, and this time the video game characters have broken free of their console and are causing chaos in the real world. The film opens in theaters December 25, 2026.
The trailer picks up with Spencer, played by Alex Wolff, and friends summoned to discover that Jumanji has invaded reality, with each of the core four avatars stuck in what is described as “demo mode.” That means Dr. Bravestone, played by Dwayne Johnson, is speaking in a Spanish accent, and Oberon, played by Jack Black, Roundhouse, played by Karen Gillan and Mouse Finbar, played by Kevin Hart, are all stilted, glitchy versions of themselves navigating a world they were never designed to inhabit. “I’m beginning to suspect,” Black’s avatar says, “that we’re not in Jumanji.”
Set to Europe’s “The Final Countdown,” the trailer delivers exactly the kind of chaotic energy the franchise is known for, with ostriches, rhinoceroses, lizards and oxen stampeding through the real world alongside the four bewildered avatars. Danny DeVito also appears as Spencer’s grandfather, and Lamorne Morris can be spotted as a computer repairman who stumbles onto something he definitely was not looking for.
The film is the concluding chapter of the reimagined franchise that began with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017, which grossed over $962 million worldwide, followed by Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019, which added over $801 million globally. Director Jake Kasdan returns for the trilogy finale from a screenplay by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The cast also includes Nick Jonas, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain and Rhys Darby. Johnson, Matt Tolmach, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Kasdan produce.
