Lil Rel Howery Joins Cast of Anti-Love Comedy ‘F*ck Valentines Day’

Lil Rel Howery is adding his comedic chops to a rom-com that’s flipping the love story formula on its head. The Vacation Friends star is the latest to join F*ck Valentines Day, alongside Marisa Tomei and Virginia Gardner, in a film that’s anything but hearts and roses.

Also joining the cast are Skylar Astin (So Help Me Todd), Jake Cannavale (The Offer), Sabrina Bartlett (Bridgerton), and Natasha Leggero (He’s Just Not That Into You). The film is currently shooting in the scenic backdrop of Malta, but don’t let the dreamy location fool you—this isn’t your typical fairytale romance.

Written by Steve Bencich and directed by Mark Gantt, the story follows Gina (Gardner), a woman born on the one day she can’t stand: Valentine’s Day. To make matters worse, she suspects her boyfriend is planning to propose during her birthday trip to Greece—home of her free-spirited, say-anything mother (played by Tomei). Determined to derail the big moment, Gina ropes in two fellow vacationers: the charming Johnny Giovinazzo and his outspoken sister Mickey. What starts as a mission to stop a proposal turns into a much bigger revelation—maybe Gina’s with the wrong guy altogether.

No word yet on who Howery is playing, but if his past roles are any indication, he’s likely the scene-stealer in whatever room he walks into.

The film is produced by Nancy Leopardi (Indy Entertainment), John Ierardi and Bo Youngblood (Showdown Productions), and Michael Cassutt. Executive producers include Danielle Gasher, Phil Shaltz, Natalie Marciano, Batia Parnass, and casting directors Arlie Day and Mike Page. Alon Michael Hattingh and Joshua Cassar Gaspar of Valletta Pictures are on board as co-producers.

Fck Valentines Day* is shaping up to be the rom-com for everyone who’s ever side-eyed February 14—or just needed a reminder that love doesn’t always come wrapped in a perfect little bow.
