Lil Rel Howery Drops Trailer For His Directorial Debut ‘Haunted Heist’

The official trailer for Haunted Heist is here, and it wastes no time setting up the chaos. Lil Rel Howery’s directorial debut arrives in select theaters July 24, 2026.

The trailer opens with Karlous Miller’s character walking out of jail and immediately calling up his three best friends, played by Howery, Tiffany Haddish, and King Bach. He tells them he has an Airbnb lined up, the kind of reunion trip that sounds too good to pass up. What he does not tell them until they get there is that the real plan is to locate and steal a $20 million antique hidden somewhere inside the house. Before anyone can argue about it, the doors might as well lock behind them, because what comes next is not a heist. It is a haunting.

Clue-like figures begin appearing throughout the home and the group quickly realizes they are not alone. What started as a reunion turns into a full supernatural nightmare, with four people who have more than enough unresolved history between them now forced to work together just to survive the night.

Written by Carl Reid and directed by Howery, the film rounds out its ensemble with Brett Gelman, Tony Baker, Ari Dayan, and Tara Terry. Production filmed in Detroit, with Haddish and Bach reportedly making surprise appearances at local comedy clubs between takes. “I loved filming in Detroit,” said Haddish. “History was all around me and there was no traffic. That’s a win.”

Haunted Heist marks the second production from genre film specialists The Coven, who handle worldwide rights. The film is co-produced by The Coven, Death Ground Films, Robinwood7, and Rel Event Productions, with executive producers Priscilla Ross Smith, Kendall Anlian, and Feras M. Shammami. The film previously made its festival debut at Fantastic Festival.
