MADEA'S DESTINATION WEDDING

Tyler Perry is bringing back his iconic character Madea for the 13th film in the Madea-verse, titled “Madea’s Destination Wedding.” The movie, currently in production, is set to stream on Netflix as part of Perry’s multi-year, first-look contract with the streaming giant.

According to ‘What’s on Netflix,’ the plot revolves around Madea’s granddaughter Tiffany, who introduces her new boyfriend, Zavier, to her family and drops the shocking news to them: that the couple is getting married in two weeks, and everybody is invited to their destination wedding in the Bahamas. Despite her mother, Debrah, appearing to have everything under control, the vacation is hitting some turbulence. Madea isn’t ready to leave the country; Brian doesn’t approve of his daughter’s hasty wedding or her immature fiancee; Tiffany starts to doubt Zavier; and Debrah’s acting out of character. The whole wedding smells suspicious, and all Brian wants to know is whether or not this marriage is really all that it seems.”

Shooting began on January 15 in Atlanta and is set to conclude on January 25 at Tyler Perry Studios, with additional filming dates in the Dominican Republic yet to be announced.

This project falls under Perry’s partnership with Netflix, established in 2023, allowing him creative control to write, direct, and produce feature films. The deal includes the production of eight films over the next four years.

Perry’s recent collaboration with Netflix includes the 2022 release of “A Madea Homecoming,” inspired by elements from Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performance. Additionally, Perry recently dropped the trailer to his thriller titled “Mea Culpa,” starring Kelly Rowland , premiering this year. Another project, the World War II drama “Six Triple Eight,” featuring Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Ebony Obsidian, and Milauna Jackson, is set for release sometime in 2024.

Angi Bones and Will Areu serve as producers on the new movie with Tyler Perry both writing and directing. Kim Coleman is handling casting for the new film.
