Marla Gibbs is set to join her daughter, Angela Gibbs, in the second season of the comedy series “Not Dead Yet.” The show, based on Alexandra Potter’s book, “Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up,” follows Gina Rodriguez as Nell, a journalist with an unusual ability to see and communicate with ghosts while writing obituaries for the SoCal Independent.

The new season, which premiered February 7th is set to continue Nell’s journey through life’s challenges, introduces new characters, including Brad Garrett as Nell’s employer, Duncan. Season one returning cast are Hannah Simone, Angela Gibbs, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, and Josh Banday. The guest stars for season 2 also include Wendie Malick, Nico Santos, Rob Corddry, Tommy Martinez, Lidia Porto, Jesse Garcia, and Cedric Yarbrough.
Marla Gibbs will play Nana Sugar, the mother of Angela Gibbs’ character Cricket. Nana Sugar, an obituary subject for Nell, was the successful owner of a cookie empire, keeping her secret ingredient closely guarded—except from Nell.
Chelsea Handler will also guest star in the same episode, playing Sharon Darynson, the owner of a rival news station. Her character, a long-time nemesis to Brad Garrett’s Duncan Rhoades, brings a layer of rivalry to the series.
Gibbs and Handler’s guest-starring episode, scheduled for late March, will center on Lexi (Ash) and Duncan (Garrett) spending peculiar quality time at a newspaper softball game.
“Not Dead Yet” was created by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, with executive producers including Gina Rodriguez, Dean Holland, McG, Mary Viola, and Corey Marsh. The show is produced by Wonderland Sound and Vision, and 20th Television serves as the studio for this captivating blend of comedy and the supernatural.
