Sony Pictures has decided to move up the release date for the fourth installment to the Bad Boys franchise. Led by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the action-packed comedy will now hit theaters on June 7, 2024, a week earlier than originally scheduled.
The decision to shift the release date comes on the heels of Lionsgate adjusting the schedule for its John Wick spinoff Ballerina. With this move, Sony aims to secure a prime spot for Bad Boys 4, capitalizing on the potential box office success and avoiding competition. While the title of the film is still under wraps, the move to an earlier date suggests Sony’s confidence in the film’s potential success.

The film, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, will continue the legacy of the iconic crime-fighting duo, Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence). The latest installment stars Melanie Liburd, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núnez, Jacob Scipio, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Joyner Lucas, and Tasha Smith, who replaces Theresa Randle in the role of Martin Lawrence’s wife.
One of the notable scenes captured during the filming process showcases what seems like a picturesque fairytale wedding. Mike Lowery (Smith) was photo’d in a wedding scene locking lips with his co-star Melanie Liburd. The pair, dressed to the nines in wedding attire, were filming a romantic scene for film.
Will’s character previously enjoyed onscreen romances with Lieutenant Rita Secada (Paola Núñez) in the third one, Sydney “Syd” Burnett (Gabrielle Union) in the second, and Max Logan (Karen Alexander) in the first film.
That wasn’t the only scene captured, the other was an action or at least dirty scene in an outdoor setting that was close to the water. Smith’s Mike Lowery donned a vintage Reba McEntire T-shirt, a black and white plaid sleeveless overshirt and tan cargo pants. While Lawrence’s Marcus Barnett was styled in a dirty white sweat shirt under a tan and green hoodie with cut-off sleeves that read ‘Pure Bred White Boy.’
The Bad Boys franchise, which debuted in 1995, has been a consistent box office performer, accumulating a staggering $841 million globally across the three previous films. Bad Boys for Life, released in 2020, was particularly well-received by both critics and audiences, earning over $426.4 million worldwide.
