Marvel Animation Drops First Trailer for ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2, Sets July 1 Premiere on Disney+

Marvel Animation has released the first trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2, confirming the celebrated animated series will return to Disney+ on July 1, 2026.

The new season picks up from the dramatic cliffhanger that closed out Season 1 in May 2024, with the X-Men scattered across different eras in time and facing their most formidable threat yet: the immortal mutant Apocalypse. Xavier, Magneto, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Beast find themselves transported to ancient Egypt in 3000 B.C., at the dawn of Apocalypse’s reign, while Jean Grey and Cyclops are hurled far into the future to the year 3960 A.D. for a Summers family reunion. The fate of Storm, Wolverine, and Morph remains unclear, though the trailer offers glimpses of their journeys, including what appears to be a Phoenix Force version of Storm and Morph shapeshifting into Deadpool.

The central mission of the nine-episode season falls to time-traveling mutant Bishop, who must reunite the team and get the X-Men back where they belong: the 1990s. Back in that decade, meanwhile, suspicious new foes and rising mutant intolerance are filling the void left by the team’s absence.

The returning voice cast includes Ross Marquand as Professor X, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue, and George Buza as Beast. Season 3 is already in production, with Gates McFadden and Adetokumboh M’Cormack joining as Mother Askani and En Sabah Nur respectively.

The first season, which premiered in March 2024, was one of the most-watched Disney+ original animated series globally and holds a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
